Thought Creates Reality, or The Slaughter House Rules

The critique of postmodern thought is the centerpiece of present blog. We've been doing it since 2006 when I left my native country, the Netherlands for Greece, to embark upon a quest to find out, what TF had happened to my country.

It soon transpired - the Pope pointed the way - the problem was relativist thought. Further investigation disclosed there's a container expression for it and a host of other fallacies as its result: it's called postmodernism. For those unfamiliar with the subject, let me explain it as succinct as possible.

The core of postmodernism holds that "the truth" (or more precise, concepts) do not exist. Every school of thought, culture, race, religion, ideology is equally valid (except the West's, which are uniquely evil). We know this as multiculturalism.

They hold that language consists in arbitrary labels, and isn't an expression of a concept rooted in reality. As a consequence they believe that if you give something another name, the "essence" of the object itself has changed (I place essence in quotation marks (or postmodern irony marks), because they deny that as well).

A train of further fallacies ends in the notion that thought creates reality, instead of the other way around, and that thus, an object in "the real world" depends upon our consciousness for its existance. A postmodernist might well ask, will the sun rise tomorrow if I die overnight?

Once disconnected from the reality, literally anything goes.

This utter nonsense is all around us, but it is unique in history that we can observe the disastrous consequences from up close, in the US Democratic party in general and the Obama administration in particular. In this instant I am refering to the "Slaughter House Rules".

I give you the Wall Street Journal of this morning:

We're not sure American schools teach civics any more, but once upon a time they taught that under the U.S. Constitution a bill had to pass both the House and Senate to become law. Until this week, that is, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi is moving to merely "deem" that the House has passed the Senate health-care bill and then send it to President Obama to sign anyway. (...) 

We have entered a political wonderland, where the rules are whatever Democrats say they are. (...) Democrats are, literally, consuming their own majority for the sake of imposing new taxes, regulations and entitlements that the public has roundly rejected but that they believe will be the crowning achievement of the welfare state. (...) >>>

Staunch objectivists might call it a coup, yet others might question their sanity. But postmodernists aren't insane, or even psychotic in any physical sort of way - they are the victims of a very vicious anti-ideology that is essentially a philosophical war crime: it's a war on reason. They have a completely warped sense of reality.

Mind you, we're talking here about the core piece of the Obama's "fundamental transformation" of the United States, a Bill that will change the relationship between the citizen and the state, in a reversal of the philosophy that is at the heart of what is America: Liberty. It is also a government take-over of 1/6 of the US economy. (...)

And it is constructed under the notion that ... thought creates reality. Be afraid ... be very afraid.

The Revolution of a Popular Political Realignment

Leftist politicians in the Netherlands are once again outraged with Islam skeptic MP, Geert Wilders. This time not for asking the questions they seek to avert, but for foregoing participation in all but two cities in the next municipal elections. "Weak" and "evasive" are the qualifications uttered by reds and greens.

Wilders, on his party's site clarifies not to have been able to find the right candidates. The horrors that may befall a young, fast upcoming movement have been iconified by the sometimes ridiculous goings-on in Pim Fortuyn's party, which mushroomed and then collapsed in on itself through internal squabbles. This is perhaps the last chance of a popular revolt to take hold.

The reds and greens are having great trouble fending off the advance of Wilders' Freedom Party. In the latest poll, while Groen Links (Greens) score 11 seats and Labor is stuck at 22 on an all time low, Wilders peaks at 28. What is going on? It has everything to do with The Unholy Alliance, the social contract the Left sought to strike with Islam.

Traditionally the party of the working class, the Left, through the art of cooptation, in the past lazily earned the loyalty of women, gays and other identity confused groups. Immigrants and Muslims were supposed to be yet two other minority groups whose interests they sought to represent. 

One culturally dense Labor Secretary not so long ago notoriously said that if we're having problems with the integration of Muslims because of our Judeo-Christian heritage, we'd just have to add another hyphen and turn our society into a Judeo-Christian-Islamic one. This statement says everything there is to know about the Postmodern Left: throwing reason to the wind, they remain oblivious of the inherent conflict in such an arbitrary, linguistic construct.

Back in the real world the Leftist 'social contract' with their voters was essentially a conspiracy of the elites and working classes to crush the bourgeoisie, traditionally detested by both. You know, the middle class on whose shoulders the duty rests to produce, manufacture, trade and keep the ship of state afloat by paying taxes and generally behaving like the good citizenry they are?

The thing is, (Muslim) immigrants started to supplant the working classes in the inner cities, alienating and marginalizing them at first, and finally pushing them out to the oh so middle class subsurbs.

Instead of being greatful for their upward social mobility, resentment set in. When Muslims began to radicalize - a process the Left claim to understand because that is what you do when you're poor and oppressed - the working class began to push back.

In their gluttony to harness the totally incompatible interests of yet another minority group, the Left have left their plebeian base in the lurch of encroaching Islamization. They are now paying the price for this politically dastard deed.

The elites meanwhile, being the elites, are getting more elitist by the day. Moreover, they' re reverting to their Postmodern roots! They've started to whine about such ingratitude ... that Wilders is a populist (a terrible insult!) ... that he's playing to the lowest sensibilities of the unwashed ... that he and his followers are closeted Nazis and fascists ... indeed, are practically subhuman. (This demonization has the precedent of the murders of Theo van Gogh and Pim Fortuyn, but the elite couldn't care less).

A self-defeating process has set in: the more ridiculous and divorced of reality these accusations become, the more often they seem to be willing to repeat them. Short of the social pressure of Nudging, political correctness and exclusion, they're at a loss what to do next. Panic is setting in.

We are seeing such insults also being traded in the US, for example in the discourse about health care reform, where Democrats are accusing their opponents - the Republican Party as well as the voters - of race baiting, hate mongering and vigilantism.

Grannies and mothers are portrayed as "angry mobs",  'Socialist health care' is really code word for racism. 

They've gone so far as to accuse the opposition of ... "stoking opposition" - in effect making rejection of their proposals a moral issue!

The White House had the unprecedented audacity to ask supporters to report dissent, turning the US into a latter day East Germany! (Btw, there's an app for that.) Latest rumor has it they've even resorted to spamming! (Update: we received a copy. It's absolutely true; the pamphlet is signed by the great Axelrod hisself.) Update: the spamming was done by a public private firm, paid for with taxpayer's money.)

Update: in a the latest development Obama has resorted to enlisting the assembled clergy so as to enlist God for his totalitarian purpose, and has accused opponents of being sinners ("bearing false witness"). Is this man an audicious demogogue, or is he just desperate?

It beggars the question, when does criticism qualify as criticism?  The answer is of course: never! These are just ploys to shut down the opposition: it's tyranny, pure and simple. 

Where this all will end is hard to say. The Left may make a choice yet for their original power base, letting Muslims to fend for themselves. I believe a Dutch Muslim party is in the making and may actually do some good in terms of maturing and emancipation. 

But if the Left stick to their pomo guns, the coalition of workers and the middle class, sometimes refered to as 'the people' (a concept much broader defined in the US, outside the confines of the traditional social strata), have no other recourse but to politically realign and find themselves the leaders willing to do their bidding, as was the original idea behind 'democracy' - you know, a government for and by the people. Very populist all, but there it is.

Thomas Paine wraps it up ... could we please have a just a little bit of that spirit in Europe too? (no, I thought not - still subjects to this very day, he?) ...

A Fleeting Fragment of Breathtaking Dishonesty

As  grassroots opposition of mostly senior citizens and lovers of liberty continues to build against the Health Care reform Bill as proposed by President Obama, Breitbart TV's B-Cast yesterday premiered a Naked Emperor production of just one - just one example of the truly staggering dishonesty and hypocrisy on the part of the Democratic leadership.

Or is it? It is actually part of the political philosophy the Democrats subscribe to: the native American form of relativism, called Pragmatism. As the opposition reels with outrage over the double standards, the Dems continue to embrace the "truth of the day", the narrative which happens to be expedient to their talking point of the moment.

Politics=War in Action

"Democracy in Action" is how the Left typify it!

When the politics=war crowd gets into Government they could silence the opposition, either by morally condemning them on trumped up charges as we have seen played out over the last few days (see "From Political Correctness to One Party Rule"), or -

they could unleash one of their political action attack dogs, as is the case today:

Move On: "Not One"

"Not a single Republican voted for President Obama's economic recovery plan in the House. If that happens in the Senate, Obama's plan won't pass. We've got a new TV ad to win over swing-vote Republican senators. Can you chip in?"

Why not ask George SoroS for a hand-out? Or is this supposed to pass for 'grassroots in action'? Swarming, nudging ... where the Left has a presence some form of coercion is usually not very far of.

Stimulus - recovery plan? The video has the gall to call for supporting "the Obama recovery plan for 3 million jobs, not the failed policies of the past ..." yada yada yada - ~~~~~~~ (these represent sound-waves, the definition of postmodern 'communications').

No, let's recover as slow as possible and credit the politicians by revamping the failed policies of the far, far past! [sarc off]

Only in countries without private ownership (i.e. in totalitarian states) can the Government 'create' jobs, rather like Corporal Hitler's and the Communists' hundred percent employment rate! (In the 1934 National Socialist economy of Germany 52,000 men were required to work on civil engineering projects alone, while some 100,000 were employed in supplying their building material.)

In liberal democracies it's a demonstrable fallacy that is re-enacted every time some Government has wrecked the economy by 'regulating' it. In this particular case banks were compelled by law to peddle subprime mortgages.

The Keynesian game is a parlor trick played by politicians on the people they claim to represent! The truth is, there is nothing the state can do to counter the fix except letting the market's self-regulating mechanism do its job; and the more they interfere with that process, the longer recovery takes.

But admitting that would prove that capitalism isn't the villain of the piece, but the hero. And it would unmask the Leftist game for what it is: a war on reality! So Keynesianism allows them to shine, a show-case for the policies that saved the country - despite, rather than because of it.

Back to party politics, the other war. The loyal opposition has finally decided a counter-offensive is in order. Conservatives are slowly catching on to the Left's Alinsky tactics.

We encourage American freemarket supporters to sign up with TCOT Action Projects, RootsHQ and DontGo. The Twin Blessings of Denial and Projection: update

Over on Pajamas Patrick Poole posted a rather good analysis of the post Conventions landscape in America.

In "Obama’s Existential Crisis" he suggests what many a Republican has already concluded for himself: the McCain campaign is in far better shape than earlier predictions had it.

The Palin pick is just one measure of McCain's covert brilliance, which stands in stark contrast with the opponent's overall choice of company.

Better still, the McCain-Palin performance has exposed the Obamaland candidate not just as an pretentious empty suit in a faux classical setting. On the contrary, the emperor now appears to be wearing no clothes at all!

Judging by hostile commentary to the Poole article the Democrats are doing what the Left does best: denying reality.

"Dude, what the hell are you talking about?", goes one; "seriously, What the HELL are you talking about?", echos another.

The projection machine is working overtime: "The Republicans are running a tabloid election" is vying with "a widespread Banana Republic mentality" for evidence of delusion. It is in equal proportion to the slander they inflict on the opponents (here's one for the record, and while at it you can click down to The Nation's home page which is currently filled to the brim with articles of similar caliber, all 34 of them - things are really lookin'up).

Obamaland is scrambling to pick up the fragments of their imploded campaign; but if the signs are not mistaken we had better prepare for another four years of fake hysterical rage, rage, rage and scurrilous invective, coupled with biased, wrathful, hateful, divisive, vitriolic, bigoted, intolerant and warmongering, racist and sexist slurs from the Orwellian Press from Hell, The True Race and all the other projection-ridden protagonists of the pathological Left. But it will be worth it.

What few objective thinking people get, is that the Leftist onslaught isn't about truth and fact, but aims at manipulating perception in order to trigger passions and opinion based on feelings. Chesler's posting touches on this in commenting on the differences between the DNC and the RNC: the DNC was basically a political rock-festival. It's all about firing passion ... rather irresponsible in today's deranged climate, actually.

Fairfax Obama supporter and executive Bruce Wolpe wrote of the gameplan: An Obama ally assessed what Palin means: “This is a turnout election and the right will now turn out. Update: Denial is the opposite end of the subjectivist fallacy that thought creates reality (if you die overnight will the sun be rising tomorrow? no, say subjectivists). If thought creates reality, then 'not thinking' (denying) it, makes the unpleasant reality go away, or so the infered logic goes.
