Another Grandiose Godwin in the European Parliament

The German equivalent of Alan Grayson, Comrade Schultz, the leader of the Socialist faction, has been called a Kapo (concentration kamp supervisor) by none other than Silvio Berlusconi, and many things besides.

Personally he's very fond of loosely applying the style named after Mike Godwin. But he's much less amused if someone else is doling out a reductio ad Hitlerum.

The reason these statists appear to be democratic fundamentalists, is because mob rule is the only thing separating them from the total state. It may come to that yet.

How it ended ...

Strasbourg: EU Parliament votes to oust UKIP's MEP Godfrey Bloom, posted with vodpod

Europe, and that goes for all its institutions, is filled to the brim with neo-totalitalitarians, statists and Hegelians.  Nigel Farage explains why!

PJM: "“Just who the hell do you think you people are?” Nigel Farage poses an excellent question. We’re still waiting for the answer . . .", by Roger Kimball

(...) The problem is, Mr. Farage pointed out, that people all over Europe are waking up and saying “we don’t want this, we don’t want [the EU] flag, we don’t want the anthem, we don’t this political class, we want the whole thing consigned to the dust bin of history.”

And the response by the EU bureaucrats who run things? Well, Ireland was told that it would be inappropriate from them to have a general election; they had to agree on a budget first. Mr. Farage had the perfect response to this effrontery: “Just who the hell do you think you people are? You are very, very dangerous people indeed. Your obsession with creating this Euro state means that you are happy to destroy democracy.”

Mr. Farage got it in right: the political crisis facing Europe may be exacerbated by the domino-like collapse of the economies of the member states. But the critical issue is the future of democracy, i.e., the future of freedom. It is “more serious than economics,” Mr. Farage argued, “because if you rob people of their identity, if you rob them of democracy, then all they are left with is nationalism and violence. I can only hope and pray that the Euro project is destroyed by the markets before that really happens.” (...) >>>

Old Politics as Usual: the Offer You Can't Refuse

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf last Saturday published an explosive story, throwing a potentially damning light on European politics. It involves threats, blackmail, extortion, broken promises and piles of unpaid bills.

The article answers the hitherto obscure question how come Libertas, the pan European party founded by conservative Euroskeptic Irishman Declan Ganley, floundered on the brink of victory in the  European Parliamentary elections last June.

Ganley had promised to pay 1,1 million Euros towards the campaign in the Netherlands alone, but funds dried up and the public perception was that the party had disappeared into thin air. Libertas did best in France where it scored a single seat.

Ganley was the driving force behind the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty which was voted down by the Irish after its predecessor, the so-called "The European Constitution" had already been rejected by both the Dutch and the French. The Treaty in effect puts an end to the member states' national sovereignty.

The Irish referendum victory inspired Ganley to go pan European with his Libertas movement, which is in principle pro European, but skeptic on the execution and operations side of the project.

Since the election defeat, Ganley never publicly offered an explanation for his extraordinary behavior of not paying the bills and abandoning his political movement. Dutch Chapter leader Eline van den Broek - rooted in the Edmund Burke Foundation - only last week sat down with De Telegraaf to talk about the explosive story behind the events.

According to Van den Broek Ganley and his family were receiving death threats. Van den Broek sat at the multimillionair's kitchen table just a few days prior to the elections on May 28 when he told her about it. These threats originated in the world of business, in which Ganley is an important player. He was also told his business would not continue to flourish, should he hold on to his political ambitions.

It is unknown what the financial damage is of all these abandoned campaigns. In Spain, Greece, Portugal, France and in central and north eastern European countries, Libertas committees piled up millions of unpaid bills that Ganley had promised to pay. No one dares talk publicly, says Van den Broek.

Van der Broek is in touch with Ganley on an almost daily basis. He says he was leaned on by businessmen as well as politicians and pressured to stop his 'crusade' against Brussels. Enormous interests are at stake, linked up as they are with the Treaty of Lisbon. The latter is in effect the ressurected but already rejected European Constitution: a monument for contempt of democratic principles (vote on it until you get it politically correct)!

Undoubtedly smear campaigns have been launched from various quarters, notably by the federalistic, postmodern Left as well as the not so very Left, but equally pathologically obsessed heirs of Hegel: it could be they'd been talking through their tin foil hats, but some were actually convinced Ganley was funded by and was acting on behalf of the CIA and 'American interests'.

Now his, his wife's and his family of four's lives are under threat. In De Telegraaf interview Van den Broek assures the paper that the devoutly Catholic's love for his family is Ganley's Achilles heel. Yeah, and don't they know it ...

Yes, We Can't!

The Spectator: "Can the Internet turn Dan Hannan's skewering of Brown into a story?"

Dan Hannan’s speech yesterday was magnificent, in three and a half minutes he absolutely eviscerated Gordon Brown. Unsurprisingly, the speech received little attention on the broadcast news (...) But the speech has already has more than twenty-five thousand views on YouTube (...) >>>

As if this crisis - which was a loooooong time coming - isn't bad enough, every single country on the face of the planet seems to be lumbered with a Government of incompetent, postmodern, relativist baby boomers. Now, why would that be?

Update:

Here's Matthew Parris on Times Online quite literally savaging Gordon Brown's speech to shreds.

Georgian Crisis: "Russia is Blowing Up Europe"

With Russia taking up the Soviet habit of invading sovereign nations, and the ineffectual response by the world's international organizations, we have reached a preliminary pit where moral relativism may take us. How much deeper into the mire the debilitating mind-set eventually may lead, becomes clearer by the day.

The situation warrants a serious wake-up call, as the Lithuanian MEP, former President Vytautys Landsbergis has done today.

NATO stands accused of bias by the Russians. NATO, not being a neutral arbiter but a defense organization, is supposed to be biased on the side of the good guys! The bizarre condemnation by Russia is cunningly calculated to appeal to the morally relativized masses in the West.

At the root of the moral paralysis lurks the toxic philosophy of relativism, the notion that there is no objective truth and that therefore any opinion is as good as any other. In this scenario there are no good or bad guys, just narratives in the form of personal perspectives. This pernicious philosophy is imposed on us by our intellectual elites and useless idiots through the pressure of petty political correctness.

Europe has lost sight of the fact that we aren't neutral bystanders, but partisan members of a defense organization. This excerpt from World Politics Review marks the postmodern corruption: "While the United States (...) condemn Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the Europeans have tried to maintain a delicate balancing act between the two belligerents. The French were even-handed (...)" This is abdicating the moral stance required as a member of NATO.

What's worse, many of Europe's politicians - to the Left as well as to the Right - have now adopted as their default attitude the philosophy of Pragmatism, another off-shoot in the Relativist school of thought. The result is well described in this Times Online article, "Georgia: Europe wins a gold medal for defeatism."

This defeatism is the result of a will, crushed by the conclusion that truth is unattainable: objective realism thus shunned, leads to moral agnosticism. In the absence of truth, it follows there is no right or wrong.

In times of peace and stability we can perhaps afford the luxury of an intelligentsia dabbling in suicidal mind-games, but right now it's becoming apparent that it rots away at our resolve and putrifies survival instincts. Our weekness invites adventurism on the part of the more absolutist. In short, there is a mounting requirement to raise awareness of the problem.

The former President of Lithuania, Vytautys Landsbergis knows the Russian capacity of constructed reality as no other. In 1991 he fought off a bloody attempt by the Soviets to overthrow his Government. He is presently a Member of the European Parliament for the conservative EPP-ED group.

Today he tolled the knell in that hapless institution by handing out a pamphlet in which he outlined his urgent caveats. It can be read on the site of EUX.TV but given its prime importance we reproduce it here below. This article on National Post goes deeper into the division between the old and the new Europe.

A concerted, undivided effort to regain control over reality-based thinking is long, long overdue. Even now - after the assault on Georgia - common denial is setting in. After Islamization failed to alert us to the existential danger of our own making, we now have the benefit of the omens emanating from the reconstituted Evil Empire. We must awake from the relativist stupor! Russia is playing us like a violin, and to all but NATO's Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, it's business as usual.

Here's Vytautys Landsbergis' interview with EUX and the text of his burning missive.

EUX.TV: "Landsbergis: Russia is Blowing Up Europe"

The gloomiest premonitions are short to become true. Europe divided, and unfortunately toadying is at last giving into Russian aggression. This was manifested by EU leaders' inefficiency even to state that a power having crossed the frontiers and raved within a sovereign country's community, nor the immobilized United Nations, dared to demand that invaders' armed forces as well as the supreme commander in chief in the Kremlin responsible for the ongoing violence and plunder get out immediately. Calls to stop crimes bring about nothing, neither does ineffective parlance on Russia's 'inadequate means'.

One seems as if expected to perceive - were the Russian bombers targeting fewer bombs on homes, exploding fewer bridges, had they sunk only two offshore patrol boats, not three, were they to have killed not two pressmen in Gori - only one instead, perhaps, those means would look acceptable.

The German proposals to stabilize the situation under the Russian occupation were just similar. To those unaware about the importance of the wording, Moscow has imposed to continue with the misconcepted usage of 'peace keepers' for invaders and, besides, an empty, time-wasting dissension on the future of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, whilst both Georgia's and Europe's future remain at stake.

The only credibility test for EU and NATO today is to request Russia's armed forces to be withdrawn immediately and unconditionally. Preventing it, Russia simply denounced any full withdrawal. Shut up your mouths, Europeans. Is that language addressed to Mr Sarkozy?

Whoever does not demand unconditional withdrawal, not 'stepping back' - actually justifies the incursion as well as the sea blockade, plundering, rape, total destruction of communications and economy infrastructure, if Georgians are not, at least, pushed to guerilla warfare in their sovereign land. Russia succeeded in 'balkanizing' South Ossetia - village against village, so, the destruction may now go deeper into Georgia. The new Georgian site, the town Akhalgori, is already occupied by 'independent Ossetians.' The mockery goes on.

Appeasing European leaders imperceptibly are becoming accomplices in total wrongdoing.

Russia in its line happily discloses itself as a medieval state-conqueror, to whom do belong all the goods taken from those defeated. "Our trophies." This is a quotation.

We have seen it all in Lithuania - the outright Soviet cynicism, ideological demagoguery, accompanying the violence of the military and chekist atrocities.

They began by accusing Lithuania to be the aggressor in 1940; the occupation was followed by the Red Terror, and they, by the use of specially re-dressed assault troopers, applying total warfare to peasants thrown out of their homes and land, well until the 12 March 1990.

This is being done currently in Georgia, while terrorists brought in from North Caucasus are also allowed to demonstrate how impotent the Tblisi government is, as it has agreed even not to undertake responsibility of protecting its own people. Europe de facto approves of free hands on this 'solution' and the fixed agreement. You don't resist, agreed Mr. Sarkozy. We'll not protect you either, only by statements. Let the Georgians retreat to the places of their dislocation. As to Russia's units' whereabouts or whenever they were to leave, it was left to be guessed. The Kremlin is free to tell lies every day. The Georgians will be requested, the Russians only suggested to. In response, they are already dictating the winners' conditions.

Hypocricy has been admitted: as if the bandits who followed the invaders' forces did not belong to the Russian units. Just so it was to be presented to us in 1991; portraying USSR interior OMON gangs as 'local forces' assigned to protect the local Poles from the Lithuanians. A bit later the whole so-called Baltic regional military structure (Russian, of course) was declared "local public force" which was provided to take part in determining the future "status" of the three Baltic States! President Boris Yeltsin behaved honestly, so the threatening GRU bubbles proved to be empty in the end.

Prior to it, we saw in Lithuania the night of 13 January 1991, which might be descending in Georgia presently. I can well remember the horrible sensation; we were butchered, looted, exposed to anything on their minds while the whole world stayed silent. It was only Boris Yeltsin who responded, as I later found out, by sternly warning Mr Gorbachev. But Gorbachev was by then already hostage of the crime perpetrated with his consent. And as the bloody morning drew closer, the West's protests were already heard.

The Soviet generals, however, were off the edge being prevented from "completing the job". It seems that around Tblisi things are alike. The Russians are mocking President Sarkozy and State Secretary Rice by distancing a little bit when they are in the city, and coming back nearer after the guests leave.

Georgia does not see the dawn, and Europe allows it to be so.

This might suggest the beginning of the pre-planned decline of the European Union and cataclysm of that ancient civilization. Speaking frankly, morally Europe already capitulated way back in Chechnya. Any simplified, primitive and artificial justification for that punishing Chechen genocide, the second after Stalin's one in 1944, was accepted. Now the berries are ripe. >>>

Today's Collection by the LooneyGlobs: Breaking News

"The program was about the answers, not about the candidates."

"Russia is Saudi Arabia with trees."

- Overheard on CNN

From Russia, With Tough Love - photos and a report from the front on Atlas Shrugs ...

NATO's "no business as usual" was dismissed by Russia as ... bias! Unbelievable ... seldom was a more morally relativized, even-handed message delivered by a NATO official. NATO's musketeer motto is its reason of being. But thanks to the postmodern (Pragmatist) Europeans NATO has now become a conflict mediator, a UN II or an EU II, that's how machismo Russia takes it, at least. For heaven's sake, NATO is supposed to be biased, it is a party, not a mediator. This needs careful watching ... George W. isn't buying.

In the meantime (10:13 CET) at Gori, Georgia ...

... there's blowback in Warsaw - there's no beating the strategy of fake paranoia and willful irrationality (a Soviet era remnant, now a retro communication weapon wielded by Western pomos) ...

And now for the good BREAKING NEWS!

EUX.TV: "Landsbergis: Russia is Blowing Up Europe"

"Vytautys Landsbergis was President of Lithuania in 1991, when he helped fight off a bloody attempt by the Soviet Union's army to overthrow his country's government. He now is a member of the European Parliament for the conservative EPP-ED group."

... much as the EU is a fundamentally undemocratic organization modeled on the Soviet Union, and as as such should be rejected, evidently it's not good news at all. Landsbergis is registering the moral agnosticism prevailing in Europe. Today he's tolling the knell in the European Parliament. He's distributed the following text:

The gloomiest premonitions are short to become true. Europe divided, and unfortunately toadying is at last giving into Russian aggression ... read it all >>> (full post follows shortly) ...

EP Awards Postmodern Version of History

The European Parliament Bureau The Hague has announced that a Media Prize has been awarded to an installment of the television series "In Europe" which is based on faulty historical data, reports Elsevier.

Perhaps the EP didn't care to check if the documentary was based on factual historical reality before awarding the prize. Given the origin, they should have. On the other hand, that may be besides the point.

The documentary was produced by the Left-wing public broadcasting outlet (VPRO) that has managed to monopolize the entire field of national history, enabling them to revise facts in whatever way they see fit. Two of its radio reporters have also been awarded prizes in the category Radio.

The documentary is written by author Geert Mak, one of the most passionate mainstays of multiculturalism in the Netherlands.

Historian Willem Melching has posited that some facts are plain wrong. It only stands to reason. Postmodernists like Mak and his VPRO producers do not believe in objective reality. They see history as a subjective narrative, the events of which depend upon the position of the viewer. Theirs is consistently on the Left.

Amsterdam University lecturer Melching states that the first four installments 'have no factual relation with the present knowledge of history.' Mak is repeating old bromides. He paints a simplistic and faulty image of Germany and the dual monarchy of Austria and Hungary in 1906. In part 2 Mak maintains the Austrian Empire stretched from Vienna to the Black Sea. This is wrong. In 1906 Bulgaria and Romania were already autonomous countries.

These mistakes matter in the historical context. Anyone who thinks of Austria as flanking the Black Sea has no inkling of the geopolitical situation in the Balkans and Central Europe. Let alone that he is able to explain such matters to a larger audience, says Melching.

The series "In Europa" has costed 3 to 4 million Euros of public money.

Europe's Speechless, Frantic Surrender

This post was published on 16th January on The Brussels Journal under the title "Grand Mufti of Syria Threatens Europeans at EU Parliament, EU Media Silent", and is yet another worthy effort written by Fjordman. We reproduce it here in its entirety for insight and comprehension.

In the next few days we hope to present you with a view from Holland. Those who know how to deal with bullies are franticly anticipating the Wilders film. Polls and surveys are proliferating, all posing questions leading to outcomes expressing various stages of mass hysteria.

Elsevier is reporting today (link in Dutch) that the police admitted to have been instructed to treat those pressing charges against Wilders with leniency. Charges of 'insult' and discrimination need not be beefed up by criminal evidence. If one didn't know any better, one would almost suspect a plot.

Surprised? You won't be, after reading Fjordman's article on the most massive act of treason in human history.

This information was brought to my attention by the blog Snaphanen. As a part of the deliberate merger of Europe and the Islamic world [Eurabia] that is the policy of the European Union at the highest levels, yet almost never debated in European media, 2008 will be a "Year of Intercultural Dialogue," which means that Europeans will be bombarded with propaganda about how good it will be to submit to Islamic rule, and some veiled threats about what happens if we don't.

The visiting Grand Mufti of Syria threatened Europeans over the "misuse" of free speech to criticize Islam. This has been carefully left out of the official EU reports from his speech at the EU Parliament. One of the EU Commissioners, or unelected pan-European Ministers, addressed the European press a while ago, hoping that they would participate in this brainwashing of the public. Not in those exact words, of course, but the journalists got the message, and disturbingly enough didn't seem to protest.

This is the hallmark of a totalitarian state, where the authorities instruct the press on what to write and which ideologies to broadcast. That is what the EUSSR is rapidly becoming, as former Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky has warned.

Perhaps the most shameful aspect of the history of Eurabia is how the supposedly critical media has allowed itself to be corrupted or deceived by the Eurabians. Most of the documents about the Euro-Arab Dialogue place particular emphasis on working with the media, and the Eurabians have played the European media like a Stradivarius.

A conference on "Racism, Xenophobia and the Media" in Vienna in May 2006 was coordinated by the EU. By the end of 2006, the network of media practitioners involved in the Euro-Arab Dialogue had grown to over 500 (pdf). These included people, media and organizations from all 37 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership. European and Arab journalists produced dozens of recommendations on how to enhance their cooperation and promote "mutual understanding" between their cultures and religions in the media.

Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy (read: Eurabian affairs), addressed the assembly of journalists. According to her, "we do not believe the media should be regulated from outside, but rather that you find ways to regulate yourselves. [...] 2008 is the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, and I am determined that by then we will have made significant improvements in the level of mutual respect and understanding our communities have for one another. In the months and years to come we must reach beyond the elites to the man and woman on the street. That is a vital part of the fight against racism and xenophobia. And you will be the key to achieving that."

This document is available on the Internet, but I doubt most Europeans have heard about it. Ferrero-Waldner also stated that "Freedom of expression is not the freedom to insult or offend. Hate speech is always abhorrent." The EU has in numerous agreements with Muslim countries made it clear that "Islamophobia" is a form of racism and hate speech. The EU is now practicing this media censorship.

According to Dutch blogger Klein Verzet, the Grand Mufti of Syria threatened Holland [link to Elsevier article added]: "Should it come to riots, bloodshed and violence after broadcasting the Quran movie by PVV-leader Geert Wilders, then Wilders will be responsible." This was said by the Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun, Tuesday in the European Parliament, where he gave a speech at the invitation of the fraction presidents.

If Wilders tears up or burns a Quran in his film 'this will simply mean he is inciting wars and bloodshed. And he will be responsible', according to the Grand Mufti. Al Hassoun thinks it is 'the responsibility of the Dutch people to stop Wilders'."

If you read the official texts by the EU media, this threat has been totally removed. Euractiv.com, a website subsidized by the EU, reports today: "No 'conflict of cultures', Islamic leader tells EU Parliament" - "The Grand Mufti of Syria yesterday told MEPs that he did not believe in the conflict of cultures because 'we are all building one culture', becoming the first religious leader to address the Parliament during the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue."

A series of eminent religious and cultural leaders are set to address the plenary session of the European Parliament on the subject of intercultural dialogue throughout 2008. The Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun, yesterday (15 January) told Parliament's Strasbourg plenary that perceived clashes of culture were instead conflicts of 'ignorance, terrorism and backwardness'. He stressed that although religion gave culture its moral values, 'it is we who build civilisation', arguing that 'we must create states on a civil basis' rather than a religious one. Moreover, he said there was 'no such thing' as a holy war.

Meanwhile, around 400 Muslim groups signed a charter last week (10 January) outlining their rights and responsibilities in European society. The charter contains 26 points, among which are clauses aimed at dispelling myths surrounding the link between Islam and violence and clarifying the term 'jihad'.

In a separate development, a UN project designed to combat terrorism by promoting 'cross-cultural understanding', particularly between the West and the Islamic world, began its first forum yesterday in Madrid. The 'Alliance of Civilisations' initiative, co-sponsored by Turkey and adopted by the UN in 2005, was proposed by Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero in the wake of the Madrid bombings in 2004.

José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero was brought to power by the Islamic terror attacks in Madrid in 2004 and has been appeasing Muslims through his "Alliance of Civilizations" idea ever since. He has pledged to drum up EU support for building an undersea tunnel physically connecting Spain and Morocco, and thus Europe and Muslim North Africa. Zapatero claims this project will 'change Africa and Europe.' He's certainly right about that.

Yesterday, the EU Commission’s website for intercultural dialogue wrote: "Grand Mufti of Syria: a single culture unites us all." - "In a speech to MEPs on Tuesday on the subject of intercultural dialogue, the Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun, stressed the value of culture as a unifying rather than a dividing force. Dr Hassoun was addressing a formal sitting of Parliament as the first speaker in a series of visits by eminent religious and cultural leaders in 2008, which has been designated European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. Opening his address, the Grand Mufti stressed that 'there is one single culture' in the world, the culture of humankind. Indeed, he said, "we are all building one culture, so I do not believe in the conflict of cultures".

Closing his speech, Dr Hassoun praised Europe today as embodying 'a miracle' in overcoming two world wars and bringing down the Berlin wall without bloodshed. Seeing the European Parliament as a model, he called on the EP 'to help us build a universal parliament'. And since Damascus is this year the Cultural Capital of the Arab World, he asked the EP, as a practical gesture, to hold a meeting there 'to show that the world is one'.

In his introductory speech, European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering said "peaceful coexistence between cultures and religions, both in the European Union and in relations with peoples in all parts of the world, in particular on the other side of the Mediterranean, in the Middle East, is both possible and essential". He added "we must build an intellectual and cultural bridge across the Mediterranean, one founded on mutual enrichment and shared values".

In 2006, the above mentioned German Christian Democrat Hans-Gert Pöttering stated that European school textbooks should be reviewed for intolerant depictions of Islam to ensure they don't propagate prejudice. He suggested that the EU could co-operate with the 56-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference to create a textbook review committee.

Islamic countries are thus supposed to decide what is taught about Islam throughout the European Union. One would assume that 'prejudice' against Islam will include any mention of almost 1400 years of continuous Jihad warfare on several continents, including Europe. This confirms my view that the only way to save Europe now, or even parts of it, is to totally dismantle the entire European Union.

Thanks to Will Smith: a Fresh Take on Good and Evil

Will Smith has really, really, really put his foot in it this time! I bet that at this very moment in time he's wishing he'd never been born.

Pajamas - Roger's Rules: "Will Smith, Hitler, and the perils of benevolence", by Roger Kimball

The actor Will Smith ignited a little firestorm of indignation when, in the course of an interview with a Scottish newspaper, he offered some observations on the inherent goodness of mankind:

“Even Hitler didn’t wake up going, ‘let me do the most evil thing I can do today’,” said Will. “I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was ‘good’. Stuff like that just needs reprogramming.

(...) Well, no sooner had the indignation machine started up (“What, he is saying nice things about Hitler!”) than Smith issued this comment:

“It is an awful and disgusting lie. It speaks to the dangerous power of an ignorant person with a pen. I am incensed and infuriated to have to respond to such ludicrous misinterpretation. Adolf Hitler was a vile, heinous, vicious killer responsible for one of the greatest acts of evil committed on this planet.”

"Noted. Instapundit provides a quick round up of the ferocious commentary Smith’s remarks elicited, including this intelligent response from The Volokh Conspiracy (...) ... indeed."

The casual visitor of the Hitler Historical Museum might indeed come away with Smith's relativist take on morality. Until one reaches the more obscure crevices; the Political Testament concludes: "Above all, I enjoin the government and the people to uphold the race laws to the limit and to resist mercilessly the poisoner of all nations, international Jewry." ... yeah sure, Corporal Hitler thought he did the right thing for the German Volk. His problem was that he had the wrong philosophy. One that denies objective reality. Price: 6 million Jews.

Volokh Conspiracy understands it too: "Rather, the quoted material simply reports Smith’s quite plausible view that Hitler, like many other people who do evil (...) believe that they are doing good. I’m hardly a Hitler scholar, but my sense is that Hitler did indeed believe that he was doing good, as did Stalin, Bin Laden, and various others." The examples mentioned all suffer from Hitler's problem: a philosophy c.q. a religion that denies objective reality. Add the Asian incarnations of Marx and the price tag skyrockets to 110 million dead. The TROP keeps tally of the proceedings at the Islamic branch.

The relativist view - what passes for ethics on the far Right and center Left side of the intellectual spectrum - invariably goes to intent. It holds good the subjectivist idea that it is somehow okay to kill half of humanity if it is done for the greater good or in their own best interest. Roger's Rules gets it: "Robespierre & Co. thought themselves just the chaps for the job. The fact that they measured the extent of their success by the frequency that the guillotines around Paris operated, highlights the connection between the imperatives of political correctness and tyranny—between what Robespierre candidly described as 'virtue and its emanation, terror.' "

- Caption: Corporal Hitler's doodle number 5 -

Whereas Protestants choose biblical guidance to keep them on the straight and narrow, Catholicism and the Scholastics have explained the human gravitational pull towards the good in terms of divine 'DNA', the piece of us that is 'of God'. The entire ethical system is laid down in Natural Law. Pope Benedict XVI is said to be taking it to the agnostics shortly, in an effort to shore up the general grasp of objective morality. Another brave effort on his part, given that agnostics are fence dwellers by definition.

Given that evil is blind - in that it doesn't perceive when intent, or the means to an end, take leave of the virtuous - humanity could do with a few useful pointers.

Contrary to what relativists have us believe, there are clashing ways of life and mutually exclusive principles. In that case a choice is inevitable: a compromise between food and poison is death, said Ayn Rand. A teeny-weeny bit pregnant when dealing with the Adolf Hitlers of this world, is tantamount to destruction.

Contradictions and oxymorons are sure signals of a impending assault on logic. Return to base, fact-check once more and re-integrate the cognitive edifice.

The essence of morality is human free will. Take away choice and the result is amoral dictatorship. (Note the second comment on Roger's Rules: the haters of morals, dogma and authority invariably express themselves in terms of 'case closed, because I say so, shut up!')

Shut up because we say so, says also the EuroParliament. The signing of the document European Parliament Resolution on Combating the Rise of Extremism in Europe as celebrated in "The Good News: for Europe and Euro-Skeptics" - the document that triggered all that indecorous heckling - has been fisked to threads by the lads of Stop the Islamization of Europe (SIOE). It would seem that this piece of Liberal surrogate morality actually lays the foundation of our very enslavement to the wannabe state's official ideology.

The EuroParliament is living proof of Will Smith's conclusion, although Corporal Hitler is possibly one of the most inappropriate illustrations. Evil may be committed through good as well as bad design, but the sinner always remains oblivious of his fall into the trap set by the Old 'Un until it's too late! Such is the human condition ...

Europe has failed to keep its eyes on the moral ball and has strayed into a subjectivist mindset in which a perceived 'noble end' justifies evil means: bullying in the name of peace - censoring to save free speech - fascistic methods to combat perceived fascism - committing evil to avert it!

The Good News: for Europe and Euro-Skeptics

During the last week or so we have been reporting on the developments in Europe, the signing of the Treaty of Lisbon, the analysis of that pile of rags, and what it means for Europeans: well, your country is in the process of being phased out, and your borders are being deleted as a post democratic empire, run by an oligarchy of neotots is taking shape.

New evidence in support of such claims is emerging.

EURSOC have been posting on a rather peculiar spectacle that took place in the Europarliament on 12th December last, ironically (or typically) on the day the so-called "Charter of Fundamental Rights" was being signed: heckling Euroskeptical MEPs. The very idea ... heckling in parliament! What's next? A debate?

But the power of the pressure of political correctness most never be underestimated. The only 'thinking' magazine left in the country of Holland was even underscoring the futility of the protest ... the embarrassing public hooliganism of petty 'nationalists' ... the rustic outdatedness of believers in the nation state (!), flags (LOL) ... and borders! EURSOC: "British newspapers complained that the (largely British) contingent of MEPs had "shamed" the country with their "football hooligan" style antics."

The video evidence was unceremoniously deleted from YouTube - a measure of the censoring that is going on in spite of the condescending attitude taken towards the feeble protests of a bunch of jingoistic buffoons - so be quick to watch it before it also mysteriously disappears from private collections.

Believe it or not, Europeans now share a border with Russia as the Schengen Agreement was expanded to the newly annexed countries of the former Soviet Union from midnight on Thursday. They'll be comforted to know - now that an old debt of honour has been redeemed - that the EUSSR at least doesn't do market Socialism (yet).

Footage, carefully explained by Robin Oakley is available on CNN. "Citizens can travel by land or sea between twenty four European (former) nations from Portugal to Poland, Iceland to Estonia without facing border checks." Aren't we lucky?!

"The move has also forced the EU to tighten up controls on its new eastern borders to prevent infiltration by criminal gangs, illegal immigrants, and even terrorists." Poland's Border Guards are working double shifts!

Now for the good news! Courtesy of Flanders Fields we've become aware of X09.EU (apparently in the postmodern epoch, an unmemorable licence plate constitutes a catchy name). The bottom of the introduction page informs us that "X09.EU falls under the responsibility of Diana Wallis, ALDE Group, and Jens-Peter Bonde, IND/DEM Group in the European Parliament." Oh ...!

Further investigation reveals that ALDE represent the LibDems, whereas the IND/DEMs are the Independent Euroskeptics. The explanatory page states that "X09.EU aims to collect signatures from across the EU demanding for a referendum on the next EU treaty" and that they are "a development of the Open Letter to Prime Ministers following the Berlin Summit of 25 March 2007, signed by 10 Members of the European Parliament from seven political groups." [sic]

Apparently these are democratically inclined dissidents from various political groups, represented in the E.P. So far the intricacies of Europolitics. Don't ask ...! Posthaste, too little and far too late!

We've seen a number of such initiatives around. They are either doing nothing at all - just maintaining a website, or - they're sending out news-letters, if anything just procrastinating any successful attempts at halting the 'inevitable' EU locomotive.

This initiative seems to be different however, it coming from the heart of the political elite rather than the mere grassroots. Therefore we do urge European readers to sign up. You can put your signature per country, urging a referendum - hopefully this time early enough to avert the next irreversible accomplished fact.

This graphic shows the ongoing progress of the campaign. Whereas some countries (Denmark, Austria) have already gone through the roof having collected over 8.000 signatures (!), others are as yet invisible (come on, Hellenes, where's your fighting spirit?!).

Obviously this campaign needs some energizing and exposure. If you want to support, put a badge on your blog or website. Leave a valid mail address in a comment and we'll send you the code for this one ready-made.

Gates of Vienna: Europe's Racial Laws

Gates of Vienna describes a very disturbing development, emanating from the European Parliament.

After it has become a common feature in European life to beat up and arrest political opponents because they are 'just right wingers', as was to be expected in a continent that has lost its moral compass, the further imposition of racial laws are being studied.

EP's Civil Liberties Committee has drafted a report, authored by MEP Kathalijne Buitenweg (Greens/EFA, NL) which questions the impact of an already existing directive.

I am vaguely acquainted with Mrs Buitenweg, who's political profile is extreme Left wing. I am resting assured she won't rest, before all Europeans have a rubber stamp on the ID card, detailing race, religion and political affiliation.
