Is it Silly Season?

Have they gone insane?!

The economy is in melt-down, an unprecedented, institutionalized heist may be under way in Congress, and we face a paradigm changing Presidential election in which a postmodernist liberation revolutionary may well win the mandate to Re-arrange the Universe on the cranky world's behalf for the coming four years.

And now it looks like the press is being run by unhinged twelve year olds, solidly in the tank for a cabal of which Messrs Castro, Chavez and Ahmadinejad are the core, card carrying members!

What follows is a collection of the flagrantly dangerous, the mere ridiculous, the quite insane, and the sincerely pathological.

- The Weekly Standard: "Liberal Scandal-Mongering Over Palin Hits Stupidest Level Yet"

The kiddos at HufPo have a post up on the all important subject of Sarah Palin's lipstick: is it real, is it tattooed? Includes a poll (the subjectivist tool for gauging truth) and - at last night's count - 12 pages worth of commentary (at the time of publishing swollen to 20) ... the upshot being: "If we can't trust her to tell the truth about her lip liner, what can we trust her on?

Who believes standards couldn't possibly sink any lower, reckons without the resourcefulness of CNN's Gary Tuchman. No treasure or personal trouble is spared in pursuit of truth on behalf of a sensation hungry public ...

- CNN Anderson Cooper 360°: "You CAN see Russia from here!," by Gary Tuchman

"Governor Sarah Palin said you can actually see Russia from an island in Alaska. Our Gary Tuchman went to find this island… Watch his full report tonight on AC360."

Footage includes Tuchman hitching a helicopter ride, and visiting a settlement on the Bering Straits.

Moving briefly away from the campaign trail, here's more evidence we've long left the realm of the real world in favor of creation according to Humpty Dumpty:

- Yahoo!News: "US 'casino' mentality blamed for planet's meltdown"

Now a reprise of one of The Most Popular and Hilarious ...

"Is Obama a Being of Light? Spiritual wise ones say: This sure ain't no ordinary politician ..."

- SF Gate: "Is Obama an enlightened being?" by Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist

(...) I've heard from far too many enormously smart, wise, spiritually attuned people who've been intuitively blown away by Obama's presence - not speeches, not policies, but sheer presence (...) Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual (our emphasis)) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.

The unusual thing is, true Lightworkers almost never appear on such a brutal, spiritually demeaning stage as national politics. This is why Obama is so rare. (...)

... going on to suggest that Obama is like JFK, who ... "wasn't assassinated for any typical reason you can name" but "because he was just this kind of high-vibration being, a peacemaker, at odds with the war machine, the CIA, the dark side. And it killed him (...) seriously! We know normal windbags, the intellectually flatulated, now we meet the new brand, the spiritual snob.

And now for the seriously creepy stuff, far above our pay grade of course. So here's the diagnosis by our favorite mental health professional, psychiatrist Pat Santy:

- Dr Sanity: "Ideological Psychopathy"

(...) an example of attempted soul murder for sake of the ideology (...) the child (not) as an individual--i.e., separate, unique or independent in her own right--but instead sees that child as merely an extension of the will of the ideology; and therefore as fodder to further the ideology (...) the psychopathy (...) thinks to disguise itself under a layer of [perverse] 'cuteness' (...) the totalitarian/collectivist mindset (...) >>>

For those interested, the doc has a treasure trove of political pathology diagnoses on her website - a caution, it's not for the fainthearted ...

Update:

It's a bit of an anti-climax relative to the insanity as displayed above, but this one doubtlessly qualifies for silly season in its unadulterated absurdity: a moderator secretly in the can for one of the parties! On second thought, what difference could it possibly make? A moderator demonstrably secretly in the can, or one merely covertly so ... truth is irrelevant ...

- Glenn Beck: "VP debate bias?"

Yes, it's pretty clear these days that the media has a liberal bias. But they've gone (even for them) too far this time. The moderator of the Vice Presidential debate tomorrow night, PBS' Gwen Ifill has come under scrutiny after it was discovered that she has a pro-Obama book due out (on inauguration day) called the The Breakthrough. Gee, what possible motive could Ifill have in influencing the outcome of the debate? >>>

There is a form of madness abroad and it manifests itself in many ways, from the black culture of youth through to the trivializing of everything else.
